A uniquely situated 135-acre parcel of land was recently purchased by the Scarborough Land Trust. This critical piece of open space is bordered by a dense residential neighborhood on one side and the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge on the other. TJD&A provided a phased master plan that will provide the community with a significant natural resource within easy walking distance. The proposed trails were designed to lead visitors through a remarkable series of natural experiences identified on the property.
The first phase of the master plan saw the construction of Eleanor’s Trail, a 1/3 mile ADA accessible trail that winds its way across the property. A wetland overlook provides a grand view over old farm fields and marshlands. The trail continues through overgrown meadows (being restored by the Trust) and terminates on a wooded hillside above a rusted metal barn awaiting rebirth. Close collaboration between TJD&A and OBP Trailworks made this trail a reality within a tight timetable.
“TJD&A brought a welcome landscape vision and the ability to present options in an appealing and unambiguous manner.”
