The Fish River Chain of Lakes Concept Plan for Irving Woodlands is a long-term vision for over 51,000 acres of land (close to 80 square miles) in northern Aroostock County. The Plan that addresses ecological resources, working forests, recreation, economic development, and regional planning around four interconnected lakes – Long Lake, Mud Lake, Cross Lake, and Square Lake.
The Concept Plan proposes to re-zone this area to better protect and manage the existing uses and resources in the region. The Plan establishes a sustainable framework for both limited development opportunities and long-term conservation, including a permanent working forest easement on 14,750 acres of timberland.
